How to access New Avalon in Season of Discovery Phase 8 ⇒ HowtoWorldofWarcraft

With Phase 8 now live in Season of Discovery, one of the biggest additions is the new zone New Avalon, a lore-heavy area tied to the Scarlet Crusade. Before you can explore this zone, complete profession quests, or gear up with the new tier sets, you’ll need to unlock access through a specific questline. This guide breaks down every step to help you get into New Avalon and avoid common mistakes.

Naxxramas attunement no longer needed

You no longer need to be attuned to Naxxramas to begin the New Avalon questline. Head straight to Light’s Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands and speak with Leonid Barthalomew to pick up the first quest, Scarlet Crusade Activities. This change makes the process quicker and easier for everyone jumping into Phase 8.

Step 1: Pick up “Scarlet Crusade Activities”

Speak to Leonid Barthalomew at Light’s Hope Chapel to start the New Avalon questline. He’ll give you the quest Scarlet Activities.

Objective:

Travel to a hidden Scarlet Crusade camp in the hills south of Scarlet Monastery in Tirisfal Glades. Interact with the ball and chain object to summon an elite enemy, defeat it, loot the item, and return to Leonid.

Step 2: Complete “Unrest at Tyr’s Hand”

After turning in Scarlet Crusade Activities, Leonid will offer you Unrest at Tyr’s Hand.

Objective:

Go to the Scarlet Base Camp northwest of the Tyr’s Hand entrance in southeastern Eastern Plaguelands. Speak with Commander Beatrix to continue.

Step 3: Turn in “The Schism”

From Commander Beatrix, go through her dialogue to complete the quest The Schism. Then return again to Leonid Barthalomew at Light’s Hope Chapel.

This step is mostly for storyline progression and doesn’t require combat.

Step 4: Begin “The Scarlet Reclamation”

Pick up The Scarlet Reclamation from Leonid and return to Commander Beatrix at the Scarlet Base Camp.
This quest sets up your first real infiltration into New Avalon.

Step 5: Accept “Gathering Intelligence” and get your disguise

Talk to Calderan, who stands next to Beatrix, to pick up Gathering Intelligence.

Objective:

Use a disguise to infiltrate New Avalon and visit three key waypoints.

How to activate your disguise:

Speak to Inquisitor Jociphine (beside Calderan) to receive the Scarlet Disguise buff.
The buff lasts 10 minutes, allows mounting, but you must be unmounted to receive it.

WARNING: Scarlet Bloodhounds can detect your disguise. If they reach you, they will remove the buff and apply a debuff that blocks re-disguising for a short time. Avoid them or be prepared to escape.

After completing this quest, return to Calderan.

Step 6: Obtain the Scarlet Insignia

After turning in Gathering Intelligence, you’ll receive the New Avalon quest, which rewards you with the Scarlet Insignia.

This item allows you to disguise yourself at will, but only while wearing four pieces of Scarlet Uniform gear.

Step 7: Acquire Scarlet Uniform gear

You can either craft or buy the required armor. Each piece is made using profession recipes at the Radiant Forge, located in the blacksmithing building in New Avalon.

You’ll need any four of the following:

Scarlet Belt
Scarlet Bracers
Scarlet Boots
Scarlet Leggings
Scarlet Tunic
Scarlet Gloves

Prices for these have dropped since launch, and you can often find a 4-piece set for under 500 gold on the Auction House.
Equip the gear, activate your Scarlet Insignia, and you’ll be free to move around New Avalon without hostility, as long as you avoid the bloodhounds.

Step 8: Enter New Avalon and access content

With your gear and insignia ready:

Enter buildings, use profession workstations, and collect quests.
Avoid bloodhounds who can break your disguise.
Pick up Cooking, Alchemy, Tailoring, Blacksmithing, and Leatherworking quests.
Gain the Friend of Pupper buff for +10% HP and +5% damage (active only in New Avalon and Tyr’s Hand).
